It’s a bird … it’s a plane … it’s WHOOOOOSSSHHHH … January 2024 that’s flown right past us!
January – While we didn’t stay up to see in the New Year, we did have big plans for New Year’s Day – our friends Jo and Matt, and their two daughters, were visiting from the US and we’d hoped to show them a good time at the beach. However the weather had other ideas; it POURED all day. We still had a good time catching up and even managed a couple of minutes at the beach before the rain started again!
January – Sigh, it’s still raining … and the power was out most of the morning due to a tree coming down on the main power line that supplies the island. Needless to say I spent most of the day on the couch!
January – The weather is still pretty ordinary but we went for a beach walk, though the water wasn’t at all inviting being dirty and full of debris from the rain and floods.
January – A relaxing day working on a puzzle of a New York City scene, and a spot of fishing – I caught a catfish (which we promptly threw back!).
January – Let the birthday celebrations begin! My birthday isn’t til Sunday, but I went for a massage (as they weren’t open on Sunday). And, the husbear made roast lamb for dinner, one of my absolute favourites!
January – Raining again … but we went fishing right on high tide and we each caught a bream. I also finished my puzzle.
January – Happy birthday to me! A very relaxed day, Miss 27 came to visit bearing cupcakes, nd we had drinks at the Beach Bar, and did a bit more fishing. The husbear caught a yellow fin bream. I love going fishing with my Bear, it’s so relaxing and he takes care of all the yucky bits LOL … plus he doesn’t insist on staying if the fish aren’t biting.
January – Busy day packing up and heading home, we’d booked the barge for 3.40pm.
January – Did a bit of work at my desk but I also visited the doctor, who wants me to try a low carb diet for the next three months in a bid to improve my blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Hmmmm no more cereal, don’t know how I’m going to manage that … in the evening we visited Mr 29 and his wife. Our son made gourmet hamburgers for dinner, and they spoiled me with lots of birthday gifts 🙂 .
January – My first full day back at my desk. We noticed poor old Seth had a sore paw and was limping, but he wouldn’t let us handle him to see if we could work out what was wrong. We thought we noticed a cut – perhaps he got it from the bottom of the front screen door? He likes to sit on the front door mat and doesn’t always get out of the way if we need to go in or out, and the bottom edge can be quite sharp!
January – Seth has stopped limping thankfully, and we can see he has a small wound on his right leg so the screen door theory seems like the most likely scenario. Just glad he’s doing better.
January – Check out my next puzzle in progress – Where’s Wally (though I believe he’s called Waldo in the States) – bit of a challenge this one!
January – Miss 27 gave me a curling wand for my birthday, so I had to give it a try … so many fun things I can do with my hair now it’s longer though it does take a bit of work, if we’d stayed on Coochie much longer I probably would have ended up with dreadies LOL.
January – Finished the Where’s Wally puzzle. The husbear and I have been wanting to get a new dining table and rug, ordered both online today, yay!
January –
January – Went for a blood test, we’ve started eating low carb (doctor’s orders) – check out this low carb morning tea, delicious!
January – First BNI meeting for the year – it’s good to be back! I stopped to buy a heap of fruit and veg on the way home, disappointed when I got home to discover the cherries were all bad. Ugh.
January – The doctor rang with my blood test results, my blood sugar level is up again from just 6 months ago. Sigh. Time to REALLY embrace that low carb diet.
January – First day without cereal but I’ll save that story for another blog post. Our new rug arrived, it’s brighter than it looked online but we still like it, we wanted more colour and that’s what we’ve got LOL. After work we went out for dinner with my dad and stepmum, and they spoiled me with lots of birthday goodies including a puzzle and books. Score!
January – Busy Saturday cleaning; in the evening our son and his wife dropped in.
January – Ah Sunday. A bit of mending. A bit of blogging. And a bit of a feet treat using some of my birthday pressies 🙂 .
January – Remember how I said Seth had a sore paw? We worked out what it was today! The husbear moved one of our cars off the driveway (we don’t use it much, and we can’t garage it at the moment due to storing most of our daughter’s household furniture there) … and revealed a very dead, small snake. It was black with a distinctive white crown – a white crowned snake, and it had obviously been dead a while as it was filled with maggots. Now we think Seth and the snake had a battle – Seth won, and the snake came off second best but not without inflicting some damage of his own … poor Seth! He’s a tough little bugger.
January – And then there were five! First Front Page SEO team meeting for the year, via Zoom, with new team members Sally and Nicola. We had a fun little ice breaker activity of sharing what our favourite emoji is – and why! Can you guess which one I chose? 🙂
January – Wednesdays are busy with meetings, kicking off with BNI in the morning and then mostly Zoom meetings with clients and prospects.
January – Whooops. I put some eggs on to boil and then went upstairs to my office, being careful to set an alarm on my phone first. Yup, you guessed it, for some reason the alarm didn’t go off and about an hour or so later I could smell burning … went down to investigate and found the pot had boiled dry, just as the smoke alarm went off.
January – Australia Day has become very unpopular, as it is a very sad date for the indigenous people of our country. This makes me sad, I hope we can change the date to something less sensitive, because the fact is we live in an awesome country and we should be able to celebrate it. We got the late ferry over to the island last night, and spent the afternoon at the beach – just as well because there was a power cut in the afternoon and the heat would have been unbearable without air con, or being able to go for a swim!
<
January – Fishing and swimming. I forgot to put sunscreen on my face, and got a bit burnt even though I wore a wide brimmed hat and sunnies – must have been the sun reflecting off the water. Ouch!
January – Pouring rain for the last day of the weekend. Our daughter moved out of our house over the weekend, she’s got her own apartment near the city. It was really strange to come home and not have her here but we’re glad she’s happy now in her own place.
January – After work we visited our son and his wife for dinner, gnocchi with carbonara sauce, so yummy. We introduced them to Silly Scrabble, our own version of the word game – we don’t count points, rather it’s about trying to put down a word that relates to a set topic, and some of the explanations are quite off the wall especially if you’ve had a glass of wine 😉 .
January –
January – It was my turn to give the presentation at BNI, I shared some SEO horror stories. Was particularly chuffed to have Jackie, one of my clients, come along 🙂 .

The calendar has now rolled over February, and we are well and truly back into routine again. I’m looking forward to a fabulous 2024, where I stretch my wings and SOAR! How about you?!
