Greetings friends! Yes, it’s your favourite post of the month – “A Sentence A Day” here on Janetti Spaghetti.
May was mostly marvellous, with lots of celebrations, a conference and a holiday in north Queensland. However it didn’t end quite so well, you’ll just have to read on to find out more!
1 May – It’s just over a week since I had PRP injections for joint pain in both hands, and I’m well and truly back at work. Unfortunately I’ve overdone it and my wrists were quite sore by the end of the day. Fleur was no help whatsoever 😉 .
2 May – Had a quick visit from our lovely daughter, she was in the neighbourhood for a dentist appointment and dropped in afterwards.
3 May – The husbear had a mate over for dinner.
4 May – Started off the weekend with a BBQ brekkie on our deck, followed by a quick trip to the library and the op shop (where I found a couple of great scarves, perfect for when the cooler weather arrives!). In the evening we watched Top Gun Maverick on Netflix.
5 May – Our 34th wedding anniversary 🙂 . Being a Sunday we went out for breakfast and visited the Manly Markets, before stopping off at a local second hand book fair where the husbear came in very handy to carry my purchases!
6 May – It was a public holiday for Labour Day so we visited Miss 27 (and she took some pics to mark our anniversary), before stopping off at my Dad and stepmum’s house to do a couple of errands.
7 May – Check out the pic I took of this pretty rainbow!
8 May – Great news! I’ve been on a low carb diet since January (doctor’s orders) and not only have I lost weight, but my blood sugar has reduced significantly from 6.4 to 6.1 – impressive that it’s gone down more in 3 months, than it went up in the previous 6 months (6.2 in July to 6.4 in January).
9 May – Tried out a new local coffee shop for a catch up with my IWA adviser. Eleanor helped me obtain a Workforce Connect grant last year (which meant I was able to expand my team!) and was following up on my progress.
10 May – Went to a local business networking group for women for morning tea.
In the evening, the husbear and I went to our favourite Thai restaurant for dinner (low carb rules don’t apply when we go out for a meal!).
11 May – Visited my Dad to celebrate his 81st birthday. Fleur “helped” me with wrapping his present, as well as a little something for Mother’s Day for my stepmum.
12 May – Today is Mother’s Day, as well my Dad’s birthday and our son’s 30th. A bit of a strange one though – we didn’t see either of our kids as they had other plans, and of course we saw Dad yesterday. We went to the Cleveland markets, followed by a little bit of sea glass hunting, and some grocery shopping.
13 May – We bought Fleur a new bed (which we have nicknamed the “Russian hat”!) at Aldi yesterday, she really isn’t too sure about it …
14 May – Had a great session with my DIY SEO HQ group today.
15 May – Saw both my kids today! Mr 30 is a member of my BNI group; then I caught up with Miss 27 for a coffee and she snapped this pic … isn’t she an amazing photographer?!
And check out this cool pic I took of the night sky. Not colourful like Aurora Australis or Borealis … but still might be related to that solar storm?
16 May – Success at last – Fleur has decided she LOVES her new Russian hat bed, and snoozes beside me while I work!
17 May – Family fun and games – we all went out to play putt putt! Miss 27 amazed us all by getting a hole-in-one on the last hole, which was by far the hardest!
18 May – Had a great night out at a special celebration dinner for our son’s 30th birthday.
19 May – A lovely lazy Sunday.
20 May – Quite busy with work, as we fly to Cairns on Thursday and I won’t be back in the office til 3 June!
21 May – Enjoyed some snuggle time with Fleur on the couch after work. I think she’s going to miss us when we are away …
22 May – Because I work at home, I particularly love getting out every Wednesday morning to catch up with my BNI group.
23 May – Flew to Cairns (I’ve never been before) and did some exploring. We had a wonderful dinner at a Balinese restaurant with another Janet, also in town for the BNI conference!
24 May – Fabulous day at the BNI Conference held at the Pullman Reef Hotel in Cairns. Met lots of interesting people as well as catching up with some old friends – like Desley from Dunn Right Legal in the pic below. Unfortunately I could barely eat anything all day – when I registered I wasn’t doing the low carb menu, though I did advise of my allergies to seafood and bananas. As luck would have it there was a “tropical Queensland” theme to all the food which meant lots of both seafood and bananas!!!! The alternative meals were very carb heavy so I was pretty hungry by afternoon tea, luckily I’d packed a protein bar for just such an emergency and that kept me going.
There were so many great speakers at the conference and I took lots of notes but still haven’t had a chance to go back over them … note to self, a holiday AFTER a conference probably isn’t the best idea.
In the evening the husbear and I checked out the Cairns night markets.
25 May – After an early morning swim in the Cairns lagoon, we drove to Atherton to meet up with one of the members of my DIY SEO group – Rae from White Lily Urns (check out the gift she made just for me and Fleur!) – and her gorgeous cat, Ser Bronn the Bad (named after a character in Game of Thrones). We also toured the Crystal Caves, then drove to Port Douglas where we are staying for the next few days.
26 May – Set out to explore Port Douglas on foot – including the Sunday markets, an amazing bookshop, and then a walk along Four Mile Beach.
27 May – Our accommodation is on the main street of Port Douglas so handy to everything, and has a real Mediterranean feel. We had fun visiting all the interesting shops along the street, and had lunch at the Tin Shed overlooking the water.
28 May – Today I fulfilled a goal I’ve had since childhood – went on the Kuranda Scenic Railway! But to be honest, I much preferred the Skyrail – we could see a lot more with a bird’s eye view over the rainforest and spectacular Barron Falls.
29 May – Guess who has Covid?! We dosed up on cold and flu tablets, and drove around to do a wee bit of sight seeing – don’t want to let it ruin our holiday!
30 May – Stopped at a couple of beaches to hunt for sea glass – Trinity Beach, Palm Cove, and Pebbly Beach on the way back to Cairns and found some amazing treasures! They are so much smoother than what we find back in Brisbane. Masked up for our flight home, by this stage I was feeling pretty miserable (unwell).
31 May – The husbear is feeling a little better so took care of the unpacking and washing, as I was definitely not up to it. Had to do a little bit of urgent work but other than spent most of the day in bed.
As I write this (Sunday 9th June) I’m still coughing and spluttering, but fortunately my experience of Covid this time around was a lot milder. This was my second bout, I came down with it after our son’s wedding in December 2022. The cough and the exhaustion linger, but I’m hoping to kick it to the curb soon though!
Now that I’ve spilled the beans – it’s your turn to tell me one highlight, and one lowlight, from the month of May 2024!
