Here in Brisbane, you know it’s October when the jacarandas burst into bloom, and the weather starts to heat up.
For those with kids at home the month is packed with the spring holidays and the start of the last school term for the year, plus the busy run-up to the silly season, though it’s not something that really affects us anymore.
So here’s a snapshot of what the month looked like for me, in a sentence (or two!) a day …
October – Right on schedule, I noticed the first jacaranda trees in bloom when I was out and about today (though I must confess, I took the pic a few days later!). Such a gorgeous time of year here in Brisbane – and next will be the festive red of the poincianas just in time for Christmas!

October – I visited another BNI Chapter this morning, always good to mix things up a little. Got a picture with two of the members, who also happen to be in my DIY SEO HQ online program!

October – RARE DAY OFF! Who even am I? I was in need of some refreshments and retail therapy, so I headed to DFO. Great way to replenish my wardrobe in time for summer!

October – The husbear and I went to the Tiny Homes expo, as we’re fascinated by how innovative these are – packing so much into a tiny space (and having lived in our own “tiny home” for several years)!

October – Snuggles with Fleur. Do you like my tshirt? The husbear used iron-on transfers to make each of us a special shirt for the ZZ Top concert we went to in May, but they were lifting – so I stitched them with a blanket stitch in a dark red wool. Very pleased with the result!

October – It was a full moon (or very close to it) but because it’s been so smoky, it was a striking orangey red. Unfortunately photos just don’t do it justice …

October – Signs of a mis-spent youth LOL – I got a new high score on the old school video game “Puyo Puyo” (which husbear bought for me last month).

October – I made honey pork wraps – a nice easy dinner. You can make them too by clicking on the link as I’ve shared the recipe previously.

October – ???
October – Went to a retro-themed 60th birthday party at this cool venue called The Tailors – it literally looks like a tailors and you wouldn’t know it was there if not clued in! I got to wear one of my new dresses from my recent shopping spree.

October – How embarrassment. We had some credit vouchers from Kmart sitting around so I thought I’d go shopping and use them up – except they didn’t work when I was at the checkout. Turns out the husbear had already used them. SO EMBARRASSING!
October – Beautiful day at our happy place – Coochiemudlo Island.

October – We’ve been watching quite a few movies on SBS On Demand lately instead of Netflix. Tonight we enjoyed watching “Best Sellers” about a young publisher trying to convince an eccentric best selling author (Michael Caine) to let them publish their next book.
October – I’m really enjoying the library book I’m reading at the moment, reminds me of our holiday in Bali for my 5oth birthday 🙂 .

October – Started the day with BNI, followed by a grocery shop at Aldi and then getting a new tire put on my car as the puncture kit had given up (luckily we have run flats on that car so can still drive it even with a flat tire).
October – A visit to my chiropractor for my regular 6 weekly tune-up, helps stop my neck and shoulder pain from slaving over a hot computer every day 😉 .
October – Got to sit front row and centre at the Rockaria ELO experience! A bit of trivia for you – ELO was the first album the husbear and I each bought as youngsters, long before we met 🙂 .

October – A storm swept through in the afternoon, but it had passed by the time my friend Viv and I went out for dinner at the Lake House at Victoria Point.

October – I made chocolate mousse for dessert – so yummy!

October – We started watching the Golden Bachelor. You know me, I love love and it’s nice to see people in our age group on TV for once!
October – A visit to a different BNI Chapter today. And check out my new glasses – red for work, neutral for every day!
October – My Google nest scared the crap out of me today, suddenly telling me around 5pm that I had a message from the husbear: Have some port. I was very happy to oblige, plus I had a good excuse – found out I was a finalist in the Impact Awards held by Women’s Network Australia!
October – A couple of business meetings today, check out the “Immunity Juice” I had at one of them (too hot for coffee!).

October – Ordered a new book online yesterday that I’d heard about on a podcast and it was delivered today. Sweet!

October – Lovely to have our son and his wife for lunch. And very tasty they were too. Haha! Just kidding 🙂 .

October – We headed over to Coochiemudlo Island – BBQ, beachcombing and a home made devonshire tea 🙂 . We stayed overnight even though it was Sunday – I brought my laptop so I can do a bit of work in the morning.

October – Great day to be on the island as it was a stinker – 38 degrees – when we got home we put the air con on, it was still 30 degrees at 9pm!

October – What a difference to the weather yesterday, today it was a maximum of 22 degrees and raining.
October – Caught up with another business owner for a brunch meeting, smashed avo and fetta on toast. This is her dog Tango – isn’t he adorable?!

October – Another day, another business event! Today I was excited to be the featured member in the hot seat – along with another business owner, Dr Camille Guillerey (a life coach for busy mums) – yes the one who encouraged me to actually wear my white hat!

October – Halloween was a bit of a washout due to storms, not that it bothered us particularly. I didn’t want to buy any treats because I knew if nobody came we’d end up eating them LOL … but the husbear caved! So far I’ve resisted temptation. Our son had a Halloween event at work, check out his costume which he modelled for us when visiting on the weekend. Pretty impressive!

And just like that, October is over — with the purple blooms fading and the weather heating up. Not quite sure how the calendar has rolled over to November already!
