What does July normally look like for you?
For us, it’s the middle of winter, and also the husbear’s birthday. Some are in the middle of school holidays but that’s not something that’s on our radar, with both of our kids now grown up!
July also marks the beginning of a new financial year … will this be the year I achieve my goals with my business? One goal I’m well on the way to achieving is a better work/life balance, as you will see …
July – Found a cute message from Miss 27 on my work notepad today – she had to use my computer for something over the weekend and must have written it then π .
July – We were surprised by a delivery of gorgeous flowers – this week is the anniversary of my parents-in-laws deaths – 3 years for F-I-L, 2 for M-I-L.
July – Pablo from 8 Web Design was the featured presenter at BNI this morning, I loved the thought captured on this slide: “Your success is equal to the number of people you affect multiplied by the size of the impact you have on them”.
July – I had a great idea for a present for the husbear’s upcoming birthday – get him a new pair of glasses! Like most men he resists shopping for clothes, or going to any type of medical-related appointment. His current pair is falling apart, not to mention the fact that he really should have a spare pair. So I visited our optometrist to order some. Alas, because he wears multi-focals it is not something I can order for him, he needs to be fitted first. So much for that idea!!!
July –
July – Bye bye Bris-Vegas – we boarded the Pacific Encounter for a Comedy Cruise! Enjoyed the sights as we sailed away, before we took in two shows after dinner, one by the singers and dancers, and the other by the comedians.
July – Explored the ship and watched a movie on the big screen up on deck in the morning; learned the steps to a 2o’s style dance at a class, and enjoyed a fabulous high tea in the afternoon. In addition to seeing some stand up comedy, we joined in the flash mob dance later in the evening – it was Gatsby night and some passengers really got into the spirit of things with their outfits!
July – Today’s highlights included the Scattergories game, where we joined forces with another older couple (could have been our parents!), and attending a panel discussion with all of the comedians. I was intrigued to learn that all of them consider themselves introverts – as they explained, being an observer is crucial to creating comedy. This was followed by a stand up comedy session featuring about a dozen of our fellow passengers who had attended the comedy workshop the previous day, they were very talented!
July – Back in Brisbane. We surprised my Dad with a visit, he’s still in rehab after his operation way back in late May.
July – A very foggy start to the day, which I had to drive through to get to my BNI meeting for 7am. I felt a bit weird all day, like I still had my “sea legs”!
July – Good news – my Dad has finally been discharged! I was still feeling a bit dizzy and the husbear thought that it has lasted too long to be an after effect of the cruise, so we took my blood pressure – and it was low. Ah yes, the doctor had warned me this could happen as a result of my low carb diet / losing weight. Will have to keep an eye on it.
July – A lovely lunch at Mt Cotton Rainforest Gardens to celebrate the 21st birthday of Redlands Women in Business. In the evening we had dinner with our son, his wife, and her parents as the kids are about to head overseas on holidays for a month.
July – Just a regular Saturday, in the evening we spent some time on the couch with the kitties.
July – Went out for dinner with a Chinese friend and her husband, she took us to a REAL Chinese restaurant in Sunnybank (an area of Brisbane with a high Asian population). The food was definitely different to what we were used to, but still yummy! I really liked the flower tea π .
July –
July – Fleur’s not silly – she’s got the warmest spot in the house π .
July – Oh my goodness winter has well and truly hit, it’s soooo cold! I wore my trusty black boots and was dismayed when the heel broke!
July – Visited the doctor as my BP is still on the low side, and yes, we are reducing my medications! Celebrated afterwards at the cafe next door, with a hot chocolate in a nice sunny spot.
July – Happy birthday to my dear husbear! I gave him a remote control car (he picked it out, not my area of expertise LOL), and we had the materials for our new patio delivered. It will be built in the “L” shape of our house, behind the garage.
July – It’s not often this happens, but today I gave up on my current jigsaw puzzle – it was just too hard. Went for a solo beach walk and enjoyed the sea, sand and sunshine, and found some really cool shells.
July – Attended the Flinders Day celebrations, to mark 225 years since Matthew Flinders landed on Norfolk Beach and mapped Coochiemudlo Island. We spent a relaxed evening outdoors toasting ourselves by the brazier.
July – One of the perks of being your own boss? Getting into work late on a Monday morning! We got the ferry back from Coochie, and the husbear and Fleur kept me company in my office when I did start work π .
July – The husbear was working from home today, during the break we spent some time outside in the sun playing with Seth (technically our son’s cat, but he lives with us!).
July – Caught up with another business owner over a delicious brunch of coconut bread with whipped maple butter. Carbs? What carbs? LOL. Sometimes I flout the rules, but I don’t know if it’s worth it because my body doesn’t seem to like it, my tummy was a bit upset afterwards!
July – Delighted to announce – I’m a finalist in the Australian Women’s Small Business Champions! The winners will be announced at an event on 24 August at The Star in Sydney. Sadly, a trip is not in the budget for me at the moment so I won’t be going π .
July – Had a bit of a sore throat and sniffle. Great end to the working week with Thai takeaway for dins!
July – I seem to have developed a rotten cold so spent the day on the couch watching Netflix (Queen Charlotte, a Bridgerton story).
July – Still sick. Slept a lot. Watched a couple of movies on Netflix.
July – The husbear knew I was still feeling pretty lousy so he surprised me with a hot chocolate from Zaraffas π . (He’s been crook too but I seem to have got the worst of it this time).
July – Still feeling yuck. We got Red Rooster takeaway for dinner – I love their tropical pack which includes a pineapple fritter!
July – You know you’re sick when you work from home, and can’t even make it to your desk. I’m all congested and coughing heaps.
Sadly that wasn’t the last of the dreaded lurgi, as I write this (on 10 August) I only just feel like I’ve managed to kick the bug though I still have a big of a cough. “Sub-optimal” as the husbear and I say (you can discover the hidden meanings to our couple speak here).
From what I hear there’s plenty of it going around at the moment – I hope you and your household haven’t succumbed!
Before you go – don’t forget to comment below and let me know what you liked best from this Sentence A Day postΒ π .
