Howdy folks, and welcome to the first Sentence A Day post of the year.
I didn’t make any resolutions or even choose a Word for the Year for 2025; last year I had all these high flying goals and ideas and … yeah. It didn’t turn out quite how I was expecting. As a result I’ve been joking that whenever I set a concrete goal (especially in my business), I end up going backwards instead of forwards – so this year I just didn’t bother!
December turned out to be the most profitable month for my business in 2024, when normally it’s pretty lean, so that might give you some indication. Anyway, let’s hope this continues and that we all thrive in 2025!
January – Here’s cheers to the New Year! We had visitors come and visit us at our island paradise, so we took them to the cafe for lunch.
January – Still enjoying our summer holidays on Coochiemudlo Island. Over the break we’ve been binge-watching “Star Trek: Enterprise”, playing some old school games like Scrabble, and I’ve been working on a jigsaw puzzle of a castle.
January – Headed back home, but before we left I took some pics of our island home.
January – I felt in need of some retail therapy after our holiday; I particularly wanted to buy something from Katies, seeing as they will be closing forever later this month. Alas, I didn’t find anything at Katies, though I did pick up a pair of shorts in another store.
January – We headed back to the island for the day, because, why not?! Check out this beautiful pelican which was sitting on a street light above us while we were walking along the jetty.
January – Well, that’s it. Christmas is over for another year – I took the Christmas tree down and packed it away.
January – Apparently it was someone special’s birthday?! I spent a lovely day visiting my sister, and that evening we went out for dinner with the kids to Calida, an Argentinian restaurant at South Bank.
January – It was my first day back at work after the holidays, boo. But also – yay! – because I visited my oncologist (after my lumpectomy last month) and received the good news that I don’t need radiation. Here’s a pic of me with happy tears, as I’m about to drive home!
January – We had a storm come through at lunchtime, love my new office, I can see the storms rolling in.
January – Big frustrations with preparing the December monthly reports for my clients, the software just hasn’t been playing nice and today was no exception. It’d better behave next month or I’ll stop using (and paying) for it!
January – I was excited to get stuck into my paint by numbers kit, one of the gifts the husbear gave me for my birthday.
January – We went out for Italian with my dad and stepmum, and they spoiled me with lots of lovely pressies 🙂 .
January – Despite the frustrations with my SEO reporting software last week, it was still a gentle start to the year … today it’s full steam ahead!
January – Our son and his wife have bought a lovely new place, so the husbear took the day off work and helped them with shifting. It was a huuugggeee day and extremely hot, poor things!
January – I had quite a few in-person meetings scheduled, but in between a couple of them I took my laptop to a nearby park and did some work.
January – It got quite dark outside so I checked the weather radar and there was a funny little storm heading our way (the news that night called it a “microburst). I heard thunder but in the end, it didn’t really affect us – or so I thought, until it was time for the husbear to come home from work. The storm had knocked the power out in several suburbs, so the trains weren’t able to get through! He had to get off the train after a couple of stations, then get a bus to a station that was past the affected area, and then get another train. It was a very late dinner that night!
January – I’ve been rereading Victoria Holt novels, historical mysteries. She was my favourite author as teenager, and you know what? Her books are just as good today as they were back then, no wonder I loved them!
January – Saturday, very spoiled as I went for an amazing massage. Afterwards I popped into the fruit shop – look how expensive this candy melon is! Needless to say even though the husbear had specifically asked for it, he got a honeydew melon instead 😉 . Snapped the pic of this gorgeous rainbow as I got home.
January – A belated Christmas get together with my side of the family, as my parents had Covid over Christmas, we had a lovely time at the bistro at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
January – I started a new puzzle, and I had my very last parcel from Miller’s delivered (as they are closing down) – I liked the shorts I bought there on 4th January so much I ordered some more online in a different colour. They took ages to get here though!
January – I got a call out of the blue from the skin check centre nearby to remind me I had an appointment for two hours’ time! Wait, what?! The appointment had been re-booked following my last visit 12 months ago, but it wasn’t in my diary and this was the first reminder I’d received. Needless to say I couldn’t go, if only they’d called me a couple of days earler!
January – A trip to the dentist for a checkup, clean and polish.
January – Miss Fleur “helped” with my work today. Trouble is when she types, it ends up being gobbledy-gook!
January – Proof that housework is dangerous!!!!! I was cleaning up the kitchen and picked up a vegetable peeler to put it in the dishwasher, and accidentally grabbed it by the wrong end – it was razor sharp. Ouch!
January – At our island getaway for the long weekend, went for a big beach walk.
January – Celebrated Australia Day by going to a lunch at the Coochiemudlo Island Golf Club, with live music and a trivia comp.
January – Somebody was glad we were back after the long weekend … and somebody else was giving us the stink eye because we weren’t paying attention to HER!
January – My new medical magnets arrived – life-changing! My acupuncturist put me onto them to help with the arthritis pain in my hands, which often stops me from sleeping at night. I now wear one of these beauties in a compression band on my wrist, and have been amazed at how well they work. No need to take ibuprofen all the time!
January – Noisy renovations at our regular meeting venue meant we were shifted to another room for BNI this week …
January – Arrived in the city a little early for a couple of meetings, so I grabbed an iced coffee.
January – Bed hair!!!
It’s been a busy start to the year, and business is definitely doing better so I’m feeling more positive than I have for quite a while. But all work and no play makes Janet a dull girl, and with our 35th wedding anniversary coming up, I think it’s time the husbear and I started planning a holiday or trip to celebrate … and NOT to Coochiemudlo Island this time, LOL!
What was the highlight of your January?!
So good to see you post – the perfect way to start off my week. Sounds like an action packed month, but a holiday for your 35th sounds like a no-brainer to me!! Maybe your next blog post should be places on your bucket list to travel & why 🙂
