Greetings dear friends! Well, when I left you at the end of July’s Sentence A Day post I had succumbed to the dreaded lurgi and was feeling decidedly unwell.
Unfortunately this continued in to August so it was a bit quiet, especially at the start …
August – I took this cute pic of Miss Fleur looking extremely cosy in her “Russian hat” bed, she snoozes here beside me while I’m at my desk.
August – Still feeling terrible and coughing lots, but worked anyway, the joys of working from home 😉 .
August – Even though we were both feeling pretty ordinary, we pulled ourselves together and headed out in the evening as we had tickets to one of the husbear’s absolute favourite bands, The Angels, at a local pub. It was worth the effort, we had a great night!
August – Quiet Sunday at home.
August – The husbear has modified the recliner chairs in the media room so that instead of four individual chairs, the centre one is a two seater – perfect for cuddling up together to watch a movie on Netflix, or our favourite TV series of all time – Star Trek: The Next Generation (which we watched tonight)! I’m finding it particularly interesting at the moment as I recently finished reading Wil Wheaton’s memoir, “Still Just a Geek” (he played Wesley Crusher). I’ve been able to fill the husbear in on some of the things that were going on behind the scenes.
August – A trip across town for Women’s Network Australia brunch. I’d originally planned to go with a client but unfortunately she was unwell. There seems to be a lot of it going around!
August –
August – It felt like my heart was racing so I checked my BP and pulse rate – and yes, both were up. After about 10 minutes is thankfully settled down!
August – In last month’s post I mentioned being a finalist in the Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards. To help with making the most of this opportunity, I’d arranged for the half dozen local finalists to get together for a photo op and hopefully some press coverage. Today we had a photo shoot with Judy from Iris Faith Photography, and we even had one of the local councillors come along to congratulate us – thanks Councillor Wendy Boglary!
August – A quiet Saturday at home, blogging and doing some household chores. I finally felt better after two or three weekends of being pretty much a washout!
August – Our son and his wife are back from their holiday in Europe, so we caught up with them and her parents for dinner.
August – I nearly choked on a piece of roast lamb during dinner, which was very scary – I’ve already written about it in the post, “A Very Close Call“.
August – My lungs and windpipe still felt weird, so to be on the safe side I went to the doctor and had a chest xray done – happily I got the all clear!
August – A public holiday for the Royal Queensland Show. We visited my Dad and stepmum. Dad doesn’t speak much these days due to the brain injury he acquired from a bleed on the brain a couple of years ago, but as we hugged goodbye he looked into my eyes and told me I had a “lovely face”, which was very special to me 🙂 . I snapped this pic on the way to their place.
August – The husbear did the grocery shopping and bought us a couple of cool new mugs that change colour when filled with a hot drink!
August – I attended a Bayside Women in Business luncheon; in the evening the husbear and I relaxed with cocktails on the deck.
August – Weekend at our island getaway! The husbear had fun running the remote control car I gave him for his birthday last month, and I took lots of video like the good and supportive wife I am 🙂 . (This photo wasn’t taken today – it’s from a couple of weeks ago.)
August – We had dinner at the Coochiemudlo Island Beach Bar, but I will have to remember to tell them NOT to add garlic next time I order the pizza – it was way too overpowering for my taste!
August – I got a shock when there was an almighty whack on the sliding door in the family room – a silly bird had flown into it! I went outside to check on it and it flew up to the rafters where it sat, looking very dazed, for about ten minutes before flying away.
August – My lovely husbear made massaman beef curry for dinner (but he made sure it was mild because otherwise I can’t eat it). He’s getting to be quite a good cook!
August – I had to drive through thick fog when I left at 6am for my BNI meeting and had to use my fog lights. When I parked, I captured this amazing picture of the sun shining off one of the buildings in the city which was otherwise invisible in the mist!
August – Fleur made herself at home on my desk for a snooze, I don’t know how I’m meant to get any work done!
August – The husbear has been away for the last couple of days so I was very happy when he arrived home after work 🙂 .
August – I think he must have missed me too, because he made me a coffee with a heart in it! We did a bit of shopping, grabbing some lunch at the food court.
August – We bought a new mirror yesterday, so the husbear hung it up out on the front porch.
August – Business has been a bit slow (the economy is definitely not what it was 12 months’ ago), and there is some other stuff going on in the background of our lives so it was a very blue Monday – I was really battling the black dog 🙁 .
August – It’s turned unseasonally warm here in Brisbane, with temperatures up around 30 degrees Celsius even though it’s the last week of winter! I had to turn on the air con in my office in the afternoon. Goodness knows what Summer will be like?!!!!
August – In the evening I headed into the city for a networking event, with my mate Linda from BNI (that’s her on my right in the pic). I wasn’t that interested in the speaker, former Olympian Toby Jenkins – sports, ho hum – but he was absolutely amazing! So glad I went.
August – Had a 1-to-1 meeting with Maria from Sustainable Marketing Services, another BNI member and also a member of my DIY SEO course, and got to cuddle her Chief Furry Officer, Tango (a dog, shhh, don’t tell Miss Fleur!).
August – What an exciting Friday night, I finished my latest jigsaw puzzle of the Melbourne CBD 😉 .
August – Our son and his wife invited us to go to Riverfire with them as they live close to Southbank Parklands and the Brisbane River, the centre of all the action. Loved the flyovers by the Globemaster and the F18s, and of course the fireworks!
And now dear reader, it’s your turn! Which photo from this post did you like best? And what was the highlight and lowlight of August for you?!
